Introduction:
The mission ofprofessionalnursing is thatguarantee health promotion and recovery of patients.Severalchanges have occurred in thehealth
care systemandprofessional standards and nurses, as professionals,shouldpay attentionto the changes and identify factorsaffectingtheir
professionalroles.
The aim of this study was
toclarify thenurse'sviewpointon
factors affecting theprofessional
roles.
Material and
methods:
In this qualitativeresearch,7nursesinvarioushospitalsof
Tehranwereselected
by purposefulsampling
and samplingcontinueduntildatasaturation.Semi-structuredinterviewswere usedfordata collection. Allinterviewswererecordedandhand written and usingthe constantcomparative
methodandcontent
analysis wereanalyzed.Abilitytoverifydata,hand-writtenoverviewof themethodwas usedwithparticipantsandpartners.
Findings:
Dataanalysisshowedthatsixcomponentscultural characteristics-beliefsof patientsand
hisfamily, nurses'jobsecurity,managementand
leadership, gap
between thetheories-practice,motivationalfactors
ofwork environmentandnurses' personal beliefswere introduced asfactors
affecting thenurses'professionalrole.
Conclusion:
The results of this study showed that some factors affecting
the nurses’ professional roles that may be facilitated or inhibited the professional
roles performance, and
this requiresa
detailedunderstanding ofthefactorsfacilitatingandhinderingthe nurse's professionalrole
and planning to achieve health promotion goal.
