Introduction: With the increasing progress of medical fields and the increase of workload in hospitals, nurses, as one of the main pillars of the treatment team, are facing numerous psychological and emotional challenges. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of "Forgiveness-Based Group Training" on self-control and internalizing symptoms in the nurses of the inpatient wards of covid-19 patients in the teaching hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2022.
Methods: The semi-experimental research method was of pre-test-post-test type with a control group and in 3 stages (pre-test, post-test and one-month follow-up). The statistical population of the research was 2478 nurses working in the inpatient wards of covid-19 patients in the teaching hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences during the fall and winter of 2022. The sample consisted of 30 people who were not selected by the convenience sampling method by observing the entry and exit criteria. Then they were divided into 2 intervention training groups (15 people) and control (15 people) by simple random drawing. Data were collected with demographic questionnaire, "Tangney Self-Control Scale" and "Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale". Validity and reliability were limited to previous studies. Data were analyzed in SPSS .27.
Results: "Forgiveness-Based Group Training" was effective on self-control and significantly increased it (P<0.005). In addition, "Forgiveness-Based Group Training" was effective on internalizing symptoms and significantly reduced it (P<0.005).
Conclusions: "Forgiveness-Based Group Training" is effective on self-control and internalizing symptoms and is durable over a period of one month. Therefore, it is suggested to use this educational method in the in-service program to increase self-control and internalization symptoms in the nursing profession.
