Effectiveness of Group Training "Anger Control Management" on Self-Control and Social Sufficiency in Nurses of Covid-19 Wards of Teaching Hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences

Introduction: Violence and its negative consequences for nurses and patients became more intense due to stressful work conditions during the outbreak of the Covid-19 disease. The aim of the current research is to determine the effectiveness of group training "Anger Control Management" on self-control and social sufficiency in nurses in the inpatient wards of Covid-19 patients in the teaching hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: The method of the current research was semi-experimental, pre-test-post-test with a control group and in 3 stages (pre-test, post-test and follow-up 1 month later). The statistical population of the research was nurses working in the inpatient wards of Covid-19 patients in the teaching hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences during the fall and winter of 2022. The sample consisted of 30 people who were selected by convenience sampling method and by simple random by random number method, they were divided into 2 intervention groups of group training "Anger Control Management" (15 people) and control (15 people). The data was collected with a demographic questionnaire, "Tangney Self-Control Scale" and "Social Competence Questionnaire" and in terms of validity and reliability, previous studies were used. First, a pre-test was taken from all members of the intervention and control groups. Then the intervention group received 8 sessions of "Anger Control Management" group training. After the end of the intervention, both groups participated in the post-test. The data was analyzed in SPSS.27.
Results: Anger control management" group training is effective in self-control and increases it significantly (P-value<0.001). "Anger Control Management" group training has an effect on social competence and increases it significantly (P-value<0.001).
Conclusions: "Anger Control Management" group training increased self-control and social competence. Therefore, it is suggested to use this therapeutic intervention as an in-service training program to increase self-control and social adequacy in the nursing profession.
