Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic disease that with many limitations has many negative consequences for the individual. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of “Affect Regulation Training” on cognitive emotion regulation and glycosylated hemoglobin levels in women with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: The design of the present study was a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test and follow-up and with a control group. The statistical population of the present study included all women with type 2 diabetes who referred to the Resalat Laboratory located in Tehran in the summer of 2019. Among the volunteer patients to participate in the study, 30 were purposefully selected and randomly divided into two groups of intervention and control (15 people in each group). Demographic characteristics questionnaire, "Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire" and glycosylated hemoglobin test were used to collect data. In the present study, the convergent validity of the "Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire", the reliability of the internal consistency method by calculating the Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the reliability of the glycosylated hemoglobin measuring device were calculated. The intervention of “Affect Regulation Training” was performed in 12 sessions of 90 minutes. Data were analyzed in SPSS. 22.
Results: “Affect Regulation Training” was significantly effective in improving cognitive emotion regulation in women with type 2 diabetes (P <0.05).
Conclusions: “Affect Regulation Training” is an effective intervention in improving cognitive emotion regulation in women with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is suggested that in designing and implementing programs related to diabetes treatment “Affect Regulation Training” be used as an effective intervention in cognitive emotion regulation and also controlling glycosylated hemoglobin in patients with diabetes.

Abstract

Introduction: The family, as an important institution and provider of individual and social health, can always be threatened by various factors. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to marital adjustment as an effective factor in maintaining the marital relationship. The aim of this study was to provide a model of marital adjustment based on self-differentiation and cognitive flexibility mediated by coping strategies.
Methods: The present study is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included married employees of the General Department of Education of Qom province and the education departments of District 1,2,3,4 of Qom city (about 600 people) in 2020, of which 270 people were selected by available sampling method, of which the data of 256 people were analyzed. Research instruments included the demographic questionnaire, the “Dyadic Adjustment Scale”, the “Differentiation of Self Inventory” (Revised), the “Cognitive Flexibility Inventory”, and the “Coping Strategies Questionnaire”. Face validity index and reliability were evaluated by internal consistency method by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS .22 and Amos 16.
Results: Both models presented in this study had a good fit. Both variables of self- differentiation and cognitive flexibility have a direct and significant correlation with marital adjustment (P<0.05) which was more than indirect correlation. Among coping strategies, the scape-avoidance component was able to play a mediating role in the relationship between both variables of self-differentiation and cognitive flexibility with marital adjustment and the seeking social support component played a mediating role in the relationship between cognitive flexibility and marital adjustment.
Conclusions: Self-differentiation and cognitive flexibility had a positive and significant direct correlation with paired adaptation, which was stronger than indirect correlation. The two components of social support seeking and escape-avoidance also played a mediating role. It is suggested that couples and family counselors and therapists pay special attention to training in the proper use of coping strategies, as well as helping to develop cognitive flexibility and client self-differentiation.

Abstract

Introduction: Marital infidelity, like many other social phenomena, is a multi-faceted, complex and extensive event that involves many potential factors. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the structural model of predicting attitudes towards marital infidelity based on attachment with the mediation of ways of coping in married men and women in Tehran.
Methods: The research method used was descriptive correlation. The statistical population of the present study included all married men and women in Tehran in 2023. 420 people were selected by convenience sampling from counseling and psychotherapy centers in the 3rd district of Tehran. The research instruments included a demographic questionnaire, "Revised Adult Attachment Scale", "Attitudes towards Infidelity Scale", and "Ways of Coping Questionnaire". The validity of the instruments was measured using content validity using a qualitative method, and reliability was measured using the internal consistency method by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS. 26 and Amos.24.
Results: Secure attachment (P<0.01, β=0.300) negatively and significantly, and anxious (P<0.01, β=0.549) and avoidant attachment (P<0.01, β=0.583) positively and significantly predict the attitude towards marital infidelity. Secure attachment with the mediation of emotion-focused coping (P<0.01, β=-0.265) and problem-focused coping (P<0.01, β=-0.308), anxious attachment with the mediation of emotion-focused coping (P<0.01, β=0.296) and problem-focused coping (P<0.01, β=0.255) and avoidant attachment with the mediation of emotion-focused coping (P<0.01, β=0.335) and problem-focused coping (P<0.01, β=0.344) predict the attitude towards marital infidelity.
Conclusions: The attachment predicts positive attitudes toward infidelity through the mediation of emotion-focused coping and problem-focused coping. Therefore, it is suggested that family counselors and psychologists focus on attachment and coping ways in couple therapy to correct people's attitudes toward infidelity.
